A Message from the Chairperson
Founded in 1969, by a parent seeking to provide an international education for her children, Bangalore International School continues today as a not-for-profit, parent-governed school.
Parents are an important part of this community. BIS has always valued that connection, and we believe that when families are engaged, it strengthens the school. The parent body elects the Board of Trustees, empowering it to provide governance and strategic oversight in line with the vision and ethos of the school, while trusting a strong school leadership team to run the school with care and competence.
As a not-for-profit school, the students are at the centre of everything at BIS. Every resource, every priority, every conversation at the board level comes back to that and there are no competing interests — only a shared commitment to creating the conditions for our children to thrive. We are committed to providing high-quality international education, held to rigorous global standards. But beyond that, we are committed to nurturing and preserving this caring, connected community that is the heart of what makes BIS special.

Partnership with School Leadership
The Board works closely with the Head of School and the leadership team to support the long-term development. While school leadership oversees daily academic and operational decisions, the Board ensures that these efforts remain aligned with the school’s mission and guiding values.
